Cambridge South Men’s 1s fell to a frustrating 3–2 defeat to Felixstowe. South took a bare 11 with some relatively fresh faces in the squad, and despite that, controlled possession and creating the bulk of the chances. Tim Winter and Willow Mandil were on the scoresheet for South, both securing equalisers throughout the game (to make it 1-1 and 2-2 respectively), but Felixstowe made the most of their limited visits to the D (3, maybe 4 total), converting their opportunities from corners that were given (... well, maybe Nik's green was fair). 
The side can be very proud of the composure and respect shown throughout the game, given the adversity faced, including a couple of cards. Felixstowe's match report details South's frustration - perhaps that is true, but not frustrated by lack of time on the ball (as was so eloquently outlined by 'Stowe). South looked comfortable on the ball and generally kept most of possession, limiting Felixstowe's chances and keeping them locked in their half for much of the game (much of their possession was simply passing around the back without a line through South's press). Alas, South couldnt convert opportunities thanks to some great Felixstowe goalkeeping (we can agree on that part, for sure). Route one, long ball counter hockey beat South's high attacking back line and counter cover was limited, leading to a last minute heart-breaking converted short corner.
Sam H was named Player of the Match for a relentless running without subs, while Chris Pearson collected Lemon of the Match for his post match antics that will live long in the memory.

Despite what Felixstowe claimed, South did engage in 3 cheers - perhaps some of the squad were busy in conversation after the match...
