Match Report (26th Sep)

After a frustrating weekend in Felixstowe, South is looking for a stronger performance against Cambridge University’s M2s  in response, who had a strong finish last season in division 1. This week we have regained some strength in the squad with E. Doust back from long term injury, as well as H. Schumann, M. Inman, W. Townley and H. Peak, while B. Lindars and J. Murphy withdrew from the squad for personal reasons.

After Tim’s inspiring team talk, South started the game with its highest intensity possible. Uni 2s struggled to get out of their own half and the few times they did, they are wiped out by Mark and George. Nik and Alex continuously win their 1v1s in the wider channel and South uses these turnovers to relentlessly attacked the opposition with pace. The deadlock is broken when South won the ball in the right side of the pitch. Schumann uses his pace and skills to drive through the whole Uni 2s defence, finding Sam open in the D, who played a perfect cross to Eric in the back post for an easy finish. The pummelling did not stop after this, as South won a flick after a passage of play involving 8 players in the squad. Willow calmly finished to give South a 2-0 lead. A minute later, South again won the ball in the right hand side, immediately executed a high transfer to Will. A clever pass to Tim through the gap of Uni 2s defence followed and Tim crossed the ball to Eric in the back post to make it 3-0.

South went into the second half wanting for more, but Uni 2s seemed to have regained some composure. Many defensive heroics from South kept Uni 2s away from the score sheet. In the dying moments of the game, South won the ball high and created a 3 vs 1, but Willow, continuing his struggles in front of goal, slotted it wide. The game ended with a 3-0 victory to South.
