Penne for your thoughts

Izzy MacDonald-Parry

The L1s took on Norwich City 1s on Saturday and came away with a HUGE 3 points. I’m off to Italy so please enjoy the L1s as the pasta shapes I think best suit them. There will be no penne or spaghetti because they’re boring, and the L1s are anything but.

Zehra

Farfalle - dainty but firm. Zehra is a small lady but you wouldn’t know it from her performances. For example, took on a 1v1 at the top of the D and came out on top. Firm if you ask me. I also think if you turned Farfalle round it could look Zehra in goal.

Amelia

Cappellini - Long and very fine pasta. Also known for coiling around things. A fine player, constantly causing problems for the opposition. No better shape for her.

Isabelle

Su filindeu - ultra-fine, hand-pulled ‘threads’ of pasta. Ultra fine in an entirely different context to Amelia. Arm muscles were hand pulled by Kim in the lemon v lemon arm wrestle.

Isabel

Cavatelli - from the Italian cavare, which means ‘to hollow’. Which is exactly how the opposition feel once Izzy’s taken them on.

Kerryn

Lorighittas - braided rings, made by twisting two strands together before joining them into a loop. She twists, she turns, she beats players, they hate it but we love it.

Evie

Radiatori - little radiators. Evie radiates hype, energy and generally good vibes. Always working hard and always glowing pink. A textbook goal for Evie this week.

Jenny

Gemelli - named after the Italian word for twins. Great at capturing sauces, Jenny is great at capturing forwards.

Lucy

Orecchiette - little ears. Known for its sauce holding properties. Lucy holds us together at CB like the little ears hold pasta sauce.

Kim

Lasagne. Layers upon layers upon layers for KP. Is she a forward? Is she a screen? Is she an arm wrestling champ?

Maegan

Mafaldine - narrower than lasagne but with a frilly edge. Solid, dependable but with a little bit of flair when she pulls out an aerial.

Emily

Cascatelli — waterfall-like, modern shape. Modern like our youngest player. Ruffles and a curved half-tube channel trap thick sauces like a vacuum, much like Emily on the ball.

Amy

Tagliatelle - a classic. From the Italian word tagliare which means ‘to cut’. Cutting runs, cutting the press, waist height deflections, she’s got it all.

Katie L

Conchigliette - little shells. Thought of as putting in big shifts in dishes, what could be more true of Katie. Quietly hard working and protecting the middle like a shell protects its crab.

Katie C

Rigatoni - a very well respected pasta. A ridged tube-shaped pasta ready to take on big bold flavours. Katie does not shy away from a big tackle, big aerial or just big laughs.

Tess

Corzetti - medallion shaped pasta featuring an embossed or stamped design. Back from a 3 week trip home and stamped her mark back on the game. No notes, what a woman.
