The battle is not the war

Nuwan Chandratillake

What happens when you cross 11 purple shirts and an army of red shirts?

Today's game was like a battle, South securing an early victory in the first half with two beautifully crafted goals (scored by Craig, one from open play another from deflecting a penalty corner).

Alas though, winning the battle was not winning the war, and during the second half we began to run out of the fuel that powered us, and unfortunately we conceded 5 goals, making the final result 5-2.

However, we should not forget how well we played, we were the stronger team in the first half of the game, and I cannot wait to see how much better we'll play with a few extra subs to give fresh-legs in future games.

The player of the match was Sandy, who sacrificed his usual position in order to defend South's goal in foam armour, and he excelled in this position, frankly saving us in some very tense positions.

Lemon of the match goes to my dad (yes, you read that right) for reading the wrong time for the meeting, which led to us nearly being late. It's almost like I should take more responsibility in the future...

Good job South, we may not have won this one but our skill and perseverance was incredible and we should keep this up in future games.

Stepping up heroically and then some heroics. Big shouts to debutants Harry and Cameron for decent first games at this level.

A little confusion over the 9:50am meet time led to a lot of panic at the start. We wonder how Nuwan will approach the match report...
