Another 'Ely' good win for the 1s!
Paresh ParsotCambridge South M1s hosted Ely 2’s who were only a few points behind in the table so we were a bit wary of the opposition. South were well warmed up for the occasion as they were awaiting the arrival of the opposition goal keeper. Captain Williams was keen to leave his mark before exiting the country for a month and trying to source the hockey clip board manufacturer (after misplacing it with the team bag).
South started off well and enjoyed most of the possession although Ely did counter and made decent attacks with their speedy winger. However, it was South who attacked the opposition circle first and after a few near misses of deflections into the goal were awarded a corner.
The elite stopper Gravelling stepped up to the mark. Little did he know how many assists he would accumulate come the full time hooter. South’s sweeper (Parsot) was yet to score during the season and was given the opportunity to change this. A clean hit saw the ball fly past the opposition goal line and South were on the board early in the half. Unfortunately the sweeper had forgotten to celebrate and ran back into his half for the game to restart.
Fortunately for the sweeper he had two more opportunities to celebrate his goals but both times he managed to run back to his half without even cart wheeling or performing back flips even after scoring a hat trick (however he did manage to sign a couple of autographs after the game).
Other things also happened during the game including South scoring 4 more goals. Impact player Halse turned up for the first half and swatted a goal before shooting off to play soccer in the 2ndhalf.
Super sub Colin, after leading the pre match warm up, found himself in space several times and for his short stint on the field did manage to touch the ball several times. Bhav scored a trademark shot from the top of the D, and graham also scored a couple of goals (yawn).
Ely did play well during the game and scored during a well worked corner move. Steve saved the first strike but unfortunately for South, Ely forwards were hungrier and put away the dead ball.
Man of the match deservedly went to Parsot after equalling his total goal tally from last season with his hat trick.
Lemon went to Bhav after being mistakenly called up for playing aerial hockey by the ref, when in actual fact he was swatting a wasp with his stick that was flying above his head.
Bhav Virdi
Mmm, a bit worrying that one of our umpires thinks it's ok to swing his stick at face height! (You're not!)
