Great Performance, Shame About the Result
Eimear LeeOn a bright, sunny morning in October, eleven spritely L2s set out from Cambridge to take on St Ives L3s. Spirits were high, and why wouldn’t they be after several excellent and victorious performances over the last few weeks?
The game started well with South coming back from an initial St Ives goal to secure an equaliser, with Lauren ably finding the back of the goal.
Some great pressure from South saw much of the play for the second quarter of the game confined to the St Ives half. The press was applying lots of pressure to St Ives and forcing them to make mistakes.
The second half saw a second St Ives goal come from a well-struck short corner. Twenty-two South legs started to tire as the match went on, but there was some great running and commitment from so many players, reflected in the wide range of MOM nominations (Katherine, Esme, Grace, Naomi, Hannah and Cara the MOM winner). Ultimately, despite a St Ives player being green carded for not being back 5, South were unable to equalise again and the subs brought on by St Ives were able to apply a little more pressure in the last quarter of the game, but the score was maintained at 2-1. Fantastic work by South to secure this.
As a development point, let’s all work on being uninjured before push back! Get well soon to Iona for an unfortunate finger accident (which as it turns out was not cocktail-related. but still resulted in a Lemon win!).
All in all, a great South performance. We were unlucky not to score a few more goals, but the team worked really hard, and very well together as a team so lots more great performances are in store for the rest of the season.

Cutting her finger open the night before at a party rendering her unable to play!
