5-1 to the Cambridge South

“Five-one to the Cambridge South, five-one to the Cambridge South, five-one to the Cambridge South, five-one to the Cambridge South.”

A winless pre-season and two local derbies may have kept Harry Chalk up at night, knowing early points would be crucial in order to compete in Div 1. A cagey first half saw South one-nil behind from a scrappy goal - mentions to the defence for keeping the deficit to just one. Also a notable mention to James Bailey, whose stick flew straight out of his hand - maybe save the Vaseline for Chalky instead of using it on your hockey stick.

A slow start to the second half could have seen South fall further behind but instead an improvised drag flick from James Bailey tied the scores. Momentum seemed to shift in South’s favour as they scored two well-worked team goals by passing it around the keeper for easy knock-ins - Owen and Harry Lewis the scorers. Both Owen and Harry would score again in order to increase South’s advantage, again created by great teamwork to carve City open. The game finished five-one, with Herbert receiving a green card for a professional foul - clearly he has being learning from Chalky.

After celebrating with a nice pint of the golden nectar, Chalky claimed that he, “Felt most under pressure today at the juniors’ training”. Clearly the confidence that the captain possesses is promising when looking ahead to the next battle with Cambridge Nomads.
