Aoife or Eimear? Let’s Just Go With Sinead

Izzy MacDonald-Parry

There was some pre-game discussion about the new confusion between Aoife and Eimear to which we decided any Irish name would do: cue Sinead. The first quarter started slowly and we conceded. We then conceded a flick. Two-nil down, we woke up and fought back. The second quarter was much stronger with Sinead (Aoife) running her socks off. Sinead (Grace) blocked and outletted like a pro. Sinead (Nic) held solid at centre back and broke down Wapping’s attacking play. We still had a lot of work to do.

Half time: inspiring team talk by yours truly and Sinead (Jenny).

We went in to the second half strong. Sinead (Rebecca) drove the right wing, Sinead and Sinead (Jenny and Lauren) did their thing at sixer and offered great triangle passes. Debutant Sinead (Kirsty) was strong on the left and Sinead (Dani KS) tackled and broke down play. We had some great drives up the wing by Sinead (Izzy), Sinead (Eimear) and Sinead (Dani A) and Sinead (Jess F) had some shots on in the middle. We won a series of short corners. Sinead (Izzy) hit the post and we were awarded another. Sinead (Izzy) slipped the ball to the left post and Sinead (Dani A) deflected the ball into the goal. Two-one.

We kept working and were unlucky not to get another. We continually worked the ball up the pitch and caused problems for Wapping’s defence, catching them on the back foot a few times. We tackled, we slipped over and some (Sinead/Izzy) may have gotten slightly cross with the pitch, earning her joint Lemon with Sinead (Grace) who tumbled more than most. Sinead (Dani KS) did a lovely bit of floor hockey after talking a tumble but still retained the ball and Sinead (Dani A) decided to test the slipperiness of the pitch in the warm up. Sinead (Grace) despite her bonding time with the pitch, also earned herself MoM for her hard work at the back. MoM votes were split between Sinead, Sinead, Sinead and Sinead (Izzy, Aoife, Rebecca and Grace).

The Sineads headed off for post-match showers (a new thing for the L2s but this may continue as we have decided it’s quite pleasant), where we discovered that the drain for the showers was actually in the middle of the changing room. Cue panicked scramble to remove all items from the floor as the drain couldn’t cope with the amount of water required for washing 10 Sineads’ hair. There was discussion of copying the M2s with shower mints for next week.

Will we manage not to mix up Aoife and Eimear next week? Or will we just call everyone Sinead again? Stay tuned.
