If You Sleep In You Get LoM, If You’re an Amazing Goalie, You Get MoM
Olivia JinksI would say the match started with everyone feeling confident thanks to a pep talk, but I wasn’t there (oops - see LoM), so I’ll just guess that everyone was feeling enthusiastic but cold. The match began with good passes between the midfield (Nicky, Polly and Iona) which were unfortunately intercepted by Huntingdon. As Huntingdon drove the ball into the D the defence (Serin, Annabel and Sarah) worked their magic to send the ball back up to the midfield (side note: this is when I actually made it onto the pitch).
Some more great passes between Nicole, Iona and Vicki resulted in Juliette charging up the pitch with the ball, only to have it sent flying back to our D by Huntingdon’s defence. However, Juliette moved the ball back with another run up the pitch, then passed to me who lifted the ball almost into the goal. However Huntingdon’s goalie managed to whack it away. Huntingdon continued to attack well and as they kept hitting the ball at Cassie, she kept saving it, but unfortunately the first half ended with two goals being conceded.
The second half started with Huntingdon gaining possession almost straight away, which meant our defence and midfield had to work very hard to try to win the ball back. Hannah, Vicki, Emma and Nicole worked tirelessly to get the ball up to the forwards (Juliette, me, Iona and Nicky) but Huntingdon kept intercepting and heading towards the D. Juliette and I both made a couple of runs up and down the pitch with the ball and both made some attempts at goal, but again Huntingdon’s goalie kicked the ball out of the D. Sadly another goal was conceded as a Huntingdon player dribbled around Cassie (who did an amazing dive) then somehow slipped the ball into the goal behind her. Spurred on to move the ball out of our D, a pass from Sarah to Serin who did another one of her signature hits to me, with Vicki behind offering backup, resulted in me hitting the ball across the D to the post towards Juliette, but sadly the ball flew past the goal. The match ended shortly afterwards and although we were disappointed with the result it was a good game.
MoM votes were split between Nicole, Serin, Juliette, Iona, Polly and Cassie, with Cassie winning for her incredible saves.
LoM votes were almost entirely me for arriving half an hour after the team was supposed to meet at the pitch and missing the start of the match.
The question of this match report is: how many times will I win Lemon and how many match reports will I have to write? At this point in the season, who knows…
