Across Town Derby
Rhi DaviesSouth arrived at Nomads and, with the wisdom Anna had provided and with Jan’s preview, we were ready for a tough match. Nomads have been developing in the league and always play better at home. With Jess F as coach, the girls were ready and warmed up to continue their fight to stay at the top of the league. Within the first few minutes South were in Nomads’, D with a great opportunity to get some attacking possession. Nomads defence was strong as we expected and the ball was pressured out for a sixteen. A quick Nomads hit-out showed South that this was going to be a game of some battles, especially in the central quarters of the pitch.
The first half was relatively even with both team showing their skills, and Nomads had some good hard-hitting players. Fortunately, just before half time South got their first goal through a set of passes through the mids to be finished off by Kendra on the post.
Half time sweets and another strong team talk refuelled the girls for their second half battles. With a push back from Irina, Rhi was able to get a ball out to the wing where Jas was running. With some great positioning from the girls we were awarded our first short corner of the half. Strong injection to Rhi who hit the ball to the right post for Kendra to fabulously deflect: two-nil! Great start to the second half. South began to get into their rhythm after this goal and with some great driving into the D Irina got South’s third goal of the match.
Another short awarded to South and a straight left slip to Dani KS gave South their next goal after a followed-up deflection. This was much better from South! Nomads continued to battle and continued with there strong hits, which unfortunately lead to the skipper (‘Little Miss Bump’) being taken off after a ball raised into her elbow. Ouch!
With the last ten minutes of the game Tabby, who had been having a great day and was awarded MoM, managed to get South’s final goal. Much to the excitement of her father, who managed to get himself LOM for his excited filming skills. Notably, for her great determination through the midfield Dani K-S was also awarded MOM. Due to some confusion caused during the game by the multiple line colours as well as some misfortunate misplacement of her hoodie, Louisa was awarded the second LoM of the game.
The defensive line stayed strong throughout the game, with Janette and Emma get notable MoM nominations. Thanks to some crucial save from Louise, the L3s were able to gain their seventh clean sheet of the season.
