South vs City - Cambridge Derby
Rhi DaviesWith Kath leading the team whilst Rhi finished off coaching the juniors, the team were in high spirits ready to face the speedy opposition from across town. Team warm-up included getting the pitch set up; with it taking six girls to move one goal, teamwork was in full flow by the time the starting whistle went for City’s push back.
City had a strong start. With some powerful hitters in the middle and speedy wingers, South were going to need to be on their toes for quick turn-arounds. However, South quickly settled into the game and following some strong attacking play South gained several short corners. With the skipper stepping up to the top of the D, South watched as the ball was hit into the bottom corner: one-nil!
With a score on the board, South continued their attacking play. From some great runs from the junior pairing, Jas and Tabby, Anna was once again ready to get another goal for the South ladies: two-nil. Battles continued throughout the first half. With coach James on the sideline showing his support with the rest of the croud, South gained their third goal from a fantanstic hit from newbie Laragh. South headed into their team talk three-nil up!
Quick word from the captain and coach and the second half began. City were looking for a goal, however due to some great defending from Phoebe, Bella and Lucy B the ball hardly made it into the 3s’ D. On the odd occasion the ball managed to get into the D, keeper Bryony was ready to ensure nothing crossed her goal line. Lucy V, Dani and Saskia supported play throughout, with both defensive and offensive roles, keeping the team’s attacking play going. Jas continued to show her strength with a reverse one handed run into the City D to take a shot which could or could not have being going in. We will never know, but it was made sure by Kendra who was standing ready on the post. Four-nil, South had matched their previous score, but weren’t finished there. With another short corner, injector Phoebe managed to dink the ball past the goalie for her FIRST goal for South, after having one disallowed a few weeks prior.
As the final few minutes of the game arrived, Laragh decide one goal was not enough and with another fantastic hit, South closed the match at six-nil, with Laragh’s efforts not going unnoticed: she was award MoM! Skipper Rhi picked up LoM (it’s been a quite few weeks for her), sitting on the ball in the oppostion’s D and falling over securing her fate for another week.
Another win: South’s L3s continue on hoping for that promotion spot at the end of the season.

Back to her old trick of falling over and sitting on the ball in the opposition's D.
