Where's My Key?

Owen Harrison

What happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object? You get a draw of course. No matter how many times you repeat the scenario the result will always be the same. That can also be said with regard to each South vs Stortford meeting.

As predicted, Stortford started the game strong, finding themselves two goals ahead within the first ten minutes whilst forever looking dangerous from the inevitable long aerial from defence. South somewhat grew into the game and a composed run along the baseline from Chalky was deftly tucked away by Mark. This was soon followed by a successful short corner routine where Ed was able to find the bottom right corner.

Having come from behind, South looked the more likely to score again but an unfortunate error at the back allowed Stortford to regain the lead before half time.

After regrouping, it was clear that South were well in the game and looking to equalize. It came from a D penetration that rebounded off the goalkeeper and found its way to Owen, who neatly tucked it inside the near post. Parity was regained and South were hungry for more. With Stortford finding themselves a couple of men down from politely chatting to the umpires, South won another short corner – you can probably guess the outcome. It was indeed Ed who stepped up to once again hit the bottom right corner for South to take the lead.

With not much time left South were eleven men behind the ball trying to see the game out. As in previous encounters, it was destined that Stortford would find a way through. A short corner with a couple of minutes on the clock was converted and the draw was looming once more.

With no further goals scored, a draw was a fair result for both sides. There were lots of positives and a good performance to build on next week with a trip down the M11 to Crostyx.

Ed was delighted to win MOM and to find his car keys. Stu was delighted to pick up Lemon for the second week running.
