Mambo Number 5

Tess Skyrme

“League match number 1”

One, two, three, four, five
Everybody in the car, so come on, let’s ride
To the rival pitch around the corner
The girls say, “let’s warm up in the rain”
But I really don’t wanna

4 at the back, new formation of the week
They must stay deep because talk is cheap
I like Sammy H, Ginny A, Laurie and Julie
And as Rebecca continued you know her back was getting better

So what can I do? I really beg you, my Lord
To me is hockey it’s just like sport, anything below knee heights is all good, you can slap or send in the big hits

A little bit of Bethan in my life
A little bit of Emma by her side
A little bit of Anna is all I need
A little bit of Emily is what I see
A little bit of Tuffers in the sun
A little bit of Rachel all match long
A little bit of Naomi, here I am
A little bit of Tess makes me your LOM
Cambridge Ladies Fours!

Jump up and down and switch it all around
Shake your head to the whistle
Julie fell to the ground!
Drag one step left and one step right
One to the front and one to Ginny’s eye
Clap your hand once and clap your hands twice
And if it looks like this then it’s one all at full time!

A little bit of Bethan in my life
A little bit of Emma by her side
A little bit of Anna is all I need
A little bit of Emily is what I see
A little bit of Hayley in the sun
A little bit of Rachel all match long
A little bit of Naomi, here I am
A little bit of Tess makes me your LOM
Cambridge Ladies Fours!

I do all to fall in love with a team like you
So you can run and you shoot high
But Luisa’s saves gonna touch the sky
Cambridge Ladies Fours!

Anyway…

We tried to overcome the gross weather with positive vibes and dreams of sunnier climes. That’s about as much of an excuse I can come up with for a Lou Bega homage.

Our first game in this higher league was a noticeable step up but we rose to the challenge. LoM to Tess for a ‘stick 5’ gone wrong, nearly wiping out Naomi. MoM to Rachel for some excellent play. Cracking equalising goal from Emily, with the assist from Tess, who definitely isn’t readying a petition for the addition of ‘Assist Queen’ to the CSHC stats page to nurse her competitive ego.

Special mentions to Luisa for her debut game as GK in an adult match and for playing brilliantly; to Laurie for a goal line save; to Julie for flooring herself; and to Ginny for leaving the match with a shiny new black eye. Holding this team to a draw was a fair result from this match and hard fought for. Bring on next week!
