Lockdown?! Let's make this one count

Lucy Bedford

Just as we all arrived at Long Road it possibly couldn't have rained harder. Soaked before we've started, lovely. But then we realised, it rained the whole day when we went to Horncastle and we won that match, so maybe this is our perfect hockey weather...

Our super cheerleader team were prepped with raincoats and umbrellas and the news of BJ's pending announcement reached the team talk. Another lockdown? Let's make this one count girls.

We went out hard, overloading St Neots, creating opportunities and making their defenders work hard. Emma (close contender for POM) in CM held the team together, creating great linking play between defence and our forwards. Lucia did some solid crosses in to the D as right forward, with Olivea doing her thing by running the line behind her in mid.

Half time. Paul was there for the team talk this week, mark your players in the D and keep possession. Yep we can do that, heads up girls, we've got this.

Player of the match, Jas, was making great runs and looked super skill savvy on the wing the whole game, some linking play with Emma and Eimeer and tip, tap, she popped a lovely little goal in.

The defence rallied at the back, Hannah's communication keeping us in shape, Bella shutting them down time and time again, but we had multiple counter attacks coming in left right and centre. We were under the kosh and some scrappy play mean't they managed to pop one in between Loopy's legs. 1-1.

Loopy saved our bacon once again and we kept our heads up and built again and again, but as much as we fought in the D, we couldn't concede.

The last 10 minutes we found ourselves overloaded and defending a fair few shorts (we've totally got these sussed now and kept every single one at bay). LOM Jess screamed we were down a defender as we all prepped ourselves on the back line one last time… eeerm, there's definitely 4 of us Jessie?!!

The whistle went and we left the pitch in high spirits. Such a team effort today!

Special thanks to our 2 injured troopers Anna and Rachel for coming down and helping us get that point from the sidelines! Now that's what we call team spirit.

Shouting someone back for our defensive short when we already had 4 of us promptly waiting behind the line *facepalm
