Feeling Hot, Hot, Hot!

Rosie Brown

It is said that, ‘the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.’ Well, the L5s are due to play St Neots 4s at least four times this season…and I am going to keep my sanity and expect the same winning result every time!

It was horribly hot, it was dreadfully dry and the Longsands pitch seemed to cling on to the ball. But as a team we found our rhythm, passing the ball around, recycling it, closing down attacks, and keeping our width.

We welcomed a number of new ladies to the team who all made great contributions: Kea with some pressing runs, Lucy and Charlotte W with tireless teamwork in midfield, and Charlotte R supporting in attack and defence. Cassie, on her birthday weekend, played a blinder and kept a clean sheet, making crucial saves in both halves, earning her PoM.

It was nil-nil at half time and whilst some of us had used various body parts to stop the ball (ouch) and others were struggling with early season fitness levels (phew), it always felt like we could go ahead. Our chance came with a penalty corner inside the last five minutes: Polly injected the ball to Charlotte W, and after some great attacking play with Louisa (I couldn’t see what was going on from back there!), Polly scored. We defended an attacking short into the final whistle: the win felt fabulous.

Great teamwork and super effort team! Let’s do it again soon.

And again.

And again…
