We got back up again

James Yu

Despite facing a formidable opponent, the M5 didn’t fret and put their all into this match. At first we seemed to be doing well as we managed to get the first short corner within 2 minutes although no conversion was made.

Unfortunately this may have been a wake up call for the City side, as they stepped up their offense and managed to score 3 goals within 10 minutes. Midway through the first half Thomas’s dad and grandad joined at the side of the pitch to give us moral support, which does seem to be working as the M5 managed to hold a stronger defense to keep the scoreline respectable at half time. For extra drama, James managed to twist his ankle just before half time to show how much he is willing to sacrifice for the team, even more so he was still able to play on in the second half.

For the second half, the M5 opted to change their formation from the usual 4-4-2 to 4-5-1 hoping to change the tide in some form. The M5's team work went up another gear, in particular with Owen initiating some great breakaway runs with the ball where we generated a couple of short corners and a few scoring attempts. On another day, we might have put 3 or more of the chances away.

Seeing the slight change in momentum the youngsters from the opponents started doing some fancy reverse stick attacks, on a few occasions hitting the crossbar. All I can say is that Joe must have defensive instinctive skill at a Jedi level.

Despite the M5's valiant defence and early interceptions, the City side managed to score another couple towards the end of the second half, which drew the score to 6-0 against. Overall, the M5 still managed to put up a great fight against a formidable City side, especially in the second half as we felt like a score would come given more time.

At least we can use some fancy quote from someone famous about in order to stand up we need to fall down, or something along those lines. (Just pick whatever would make you feel better.**)

[Ed: I think it was the classicist philosopher Chumbawamba who decreed: "I get knocked down, but I get up again. You are never gonna keep me down..."]

Cracking performance against the talented hooray Henry.

Once again nothing short of excellence in his antics in goal.

Owen Russell
Lemon of the Match

Shahzad’s attempted theft of the chairman’s stick came a close second to Owen who won lemon for his modern retake of Winnie-the-Pooh, finding that the reason his chosen place to sit after the game wasn’t as comfortable as it might have been was that he was sat on a stinging nettle.
