At least the cake was great!

Flopped Pancakes and Burnt Biscuits but at least the cake was great!

South knew this match was going to be difficult, meeting City several times over the Summer League we knew they were a strong side with some skilful players, but we were up for the challenge adding some extra sprinkles to the mix with Emma, Katie and Robyn joining the squad this week. With Dani and Niamh in absentia, Rebecca was the Captain for the day leading the team talk inspiringly, I guess, as I missed this and the warmup whilst umpiring the prior game.

As soon as we could, with Paul on the side-line South go their heads in the game with strong passing and shooting warm up. Not long until the game was to start. As expected, City came at us hard with some good attacking play but his was nothing for our defensive line who stayed strong and continues to show our own skills. South had opportunities in the first half from great D penetration and running base-line ball but unfortunately nothing was to come, and it was City who got the first goal of the game.

Half time game and South were down one goal to nil, but the half had been good, and opportunities had been there so, a hard five to start the second half and strong stick to stick passes were our aim. Sadly, City had other ideas and shortly into the half with a cross ball through the D they got their second. South won a selection of short corners but unfortunately nothing yet. City managed to get their third but South remained optimistic knowing the depth of the squad we could pull this back. South fought to the very end pulling back two goals through Jess and Liandi but the final whistle went; five minutes more and this could have been a different story.

A great game and some lovely play for all but with her great block tackles and super defensive play Hayley was award POM, other votes were spread to others in the team, however, LOM was much more one sided. With the standard tumble and landing on my bum, I (Rhi), was awarded Lemon for the first time this season, I hate to say it, but I don’t think this will be the last.

It was a great game, sad to have lost, but we have our rematch later in the season where we can get our own back and feast on all the pancakes and biscuit we like!
