A Game Of Different Halves

Annie Macdonald

I can’t remember much of the game but here are the key things you want to know.

Back at the Fortress Long Road. Purple armour on. Ready to face St. Ives.

General summary of the halves:

* First half - chilled, still in warming up mode, hadn’t found our voice quite yet. 80% of play was in their half so that was a good sign. Kate D ran in circles for 20mins and touched the ball twice before subbing. We were getting in the D plenty but only won two shorts. We had a good amount of possession.

* Half time: 0-0

* Second half - all guns blazing, we decided we wanted it. Voices were found. Pre game aims were being fulfilled. Forwards tumbled, mids triangled, defence bread and buttered. Liandi was having a fab debut for the ladies 1’s. Lots of short corners were being won. Jenny had a lovely run up from defence too. Loopy only touched the ball 2, maybe 3 times all game.

The goals:

* Alice - another short corner. We need to get something. Straight strike across the D and in, bringing with it a 10/10 back board sound and a shot of confidence into the whole team.

* Annie - intercept from a 16, 1 v 1 with the goalie. M1’s we’re watching so had to put on a show, so nice lifted hit into the goal and a punch of the air in celebration. Playing up to the crowds? Lemon worthy.

* Izzy - risky game of seeing how close to the end of the game she could score so we could finish on a high. Nice and cool on the ball, had a shot on goal, took the rebound and played it round the goalie. Boom, 3rd goal, 10 secs from the end of the game. Ended on a high

Player of the Match:

* Jenny for always being there, solid defending, passing purple to purple. Bread and butter. Great stepping. Great distribution. Great running.

Lemon of the Match:

* Annie… Sunny conditions, no chances of slipping over? Alright, I’ll just tread on a ball instead in the warm up and stack it. Oh and playing up to the crowd.

Quote of the day:

“Every time I shout I feel like I’m interrupting someone’s meditation” - Kate Dixon

Summary of the summary:

Goals? Scored.

Aims? Achieved.

Hotel? Trivago.
