Good Triangles!

Steph Kyprou-Westwood

12.00pm the perfect time to play hockey… not too hot and not to cold. We had plenty of warm up time, which really helped us prepare for the game ahead.

The whistle blew and we were off. We started as we meant to go on. We had great intensity and some fantastic triangles from the mid and forward line. Around the 7th minute we were on our way. Steph took the ball and delivered it in the D for Sarah to ping it in. GOAL!! We were 1-0 up. Then Kettering gained possession and managed to smash one in from top D and the goal rebounded off the post can you believe our luck… well that’s what we thought until they managed to perfectly position themselves to get a goal! 1-1. The game is on! The fire was in our belly’s to get ahead. We had plenty of possession and some great striking opportunities. But none were going in until Emma scored a fantastic rebound shot! Stick in the right place and the ball hit the back of the net.

Halftime Haribo time…the perfect sweets for our half time talk. 2-1 and our game plan for a win was in motion.

Second half had begun, and once again we had some quick passes and good triangles. The opposition managed to get a few shorts, but the defenders held their own and was easily able to keep the score line unchanged. Then it was our turn for a short and time to practice what we had been doing during training. Tess stepped up and said this ones for me! The ball was injected and Tess was ready….but then plot twist, one of the opposition came out too early from the goal and was sent to the halfway line, they were then down to 4 in the goal! Ball came out again and Tess smashed it in!! We were up 3-1.

Possession turned to the opposition and they were able sneak another goal passed us. This made it 3-2. Five minutes before the end of the game, we were having our chances again, Steph got the ball from a great pass, and had plenty of space to move, she managed to get it in the D and cracked one in, a defender got a cheeky touch before it went it. Whistle blew for full time and we finished on 4-2. Special shout outs to Sarah for POM. She stepped into midfield like a natural. She made some fantastic passes and is always in the right place at the right time. Emma got LOM for a nice little fall in the D. Everyone had a great game and should be super proud of their efforts on the pitch today. Thank you to the umpire.
