Green card walk of shame

Tess Skyrme

After a game of hot dogs, we started well, full of enthusiasm and optimism, keen not to loose our winning streak.

Unfortunately they quickly scored two goals from some very impressively rehearsed short corner routines and we fought to gain composure and get our marking under control.

We rallied, getting stuck in, double marking and closing them down early on the break, but it was soon clear we were playing a really fantastic squad here who were very worthy of their top of the league placement. The defence had to work incredibly hard for most of the game - and the final score line of 6-0 doesn’t reflect how much amazing work they did clearing their lines and multiple short corners (we are going to estimate approx. 25 for dramatic purposes).

Multiple POM votes went to Bryony for her amazing saves and words of wisdom. However, pipping her by one vote was Sam who did incredible work in the midfield in what was a really hard match.

Suffice to say in the second half of the match we really raised our game, and great linking play lead to opportunity in the attacking D. We held the game at 4-0 until the last 8 minutes when Newmarket fired themselves up for a higher goal difference and caught us a couple of times on the break.

LOM went to Hannah for getting a bit too fruity in returning the ball to Newmarket where she believed their free hit should have been taken from as opposed to where the umpire felt it should have been. Green card walk of shame for Hannah - oops.

Despite Newmarket’s dominance, we enjoyed the challenge and as always, we look forward to taking what we’ve learnt into future games!

Incredible work in midfield and treating us to some wonderfully executed aerials
