Six-sational South!

Six-sational South!

After a couple of hard fought victories, South L3s prepared for this game looking for another win. The pre-match team talk focused on using what was practiced in training, working together across the pitch and, importantly, to bring the fun!

South started strong and within minutes had scored the opening goal. There was lovely hockey all over the pitch with the defence making excellent use of passing around the back, storming runs up the wings and the strike force too hot to handle. Indeed we were 4-0 up by half time with Steph already bagging a hat-trick (including a swept strike and a deft flick over the keeper from a short). Juliette also finished one with her usual style.

The second half saw Peterborough fighting back, battles around the middle of the pitch earned POM votes for Katie, Jess and Emma. Lucy and Sarah kept tight at the back and Sarah's determined defending and driving forward earned her several POM votes for the second week running. Peterborough put bodies behind the ball (approx. 20 players in their 23 at one point) making it hard for the South forwards to create clear chances on goal. Amy and Emma worked hard in the midfield wile Tabby and Orla worked the ball well on the wings, Orla having already played (maybe twice?) that morning! Anna and Emily created chances upfront and we knew more goals would come. The perseverance paid off and lead to two more goals, a well worked effort - finished off by Emma and of course, another from super steely Steph, who took home a well earned POM.

Overall a good performance from the 3s, another win and a clean sheet for the defence. Lovely hockey played by all, a real team performance and plenty to take confidence into our next contest.
