Card Chaos
Robyn RutterRaring to go, South we’re looking for revenge having lost 2-1 to Uni earlier in the season. Out of the starting blocks, a big with 10 mins “come on South”…… oops pony pass from Robyn gives the Uni a short corner within the first minute, desperately hoping that this wasn’t the writing on the wall. However South survive the defensive short and slowly grew into the game, starting to connect well with passes flowing, great runs, tackles being made, etc. Good build up play down the left lead to Izzy having a clean strike at goal from the top of the D. The sound of the backboard was like music to the girls ears.
1-0 half time.
No cards.
Second half started as the first had finished with plenty of opportunities presenting themselves to both sides. Uni looking dangerous on some of their attacks but they were foiled by the great efforts of Loopy in goal and the defensive unit. South had their chances too with great play by MOM Kate distributing and tackling well in the middle.
As the game reached its conclusion with less than 5 mins to go, all hell breaks lose. Dave Grammer’s mantra about game management going completely out the window, South conceded two green cards within minutes of each other, one for Anna with an unfortunate stick tackle, followed by Jess, “it wasn’t that bad”. This should have meant that South had 9 players on the pitch however there were 10. There was a lot of confusion with Bhav stopping play to count players, finally it was worked out that Lucia, who thought she was subbing, actually came on for Jess who was off with a green. Bhav having enough, gives Robyn a yellow card as punishment and off she goes. With a chaotic last 1 minute of the game, South managed to hold on and keep Uni at bay.
Two green cards.
One yellow card.
Full time 1-0.
