A Fun Friendly Affair
Eric WongHere comes another friendly against the weirdly orange Nomads 2s, who received a crushing 2-1 defeat to us earlier in the season. With Cambridge City cancelling the 2s match, we received new reinforcements in the form of Ed, Mariano, Nik and Ali. Everyone is fully prepared to give Nomads another appropriate bashing, evidently shown by the fact that Eric put his shorts on back to front, Josh O. crashed his car on route, Josh S. went to the wrong pitch and Shin lost his cones after having fun with the ladies. Ahmad is still finding the pitch.
With Nomads showing up with 10 only, after a brief negotiation, we agreed to loan out our star defenders Adam Catley and Pete Druitt to ensure a somewhat competitive contest. Despite this, Nomads still failed to threaten our half with George spotted sitting in goal contemplating life in the majority of the first 20 mins of the match by our special guest photographer Hannah. In the meantime, our forwards Jack and Will combined well to open the scoreline, followed by Mariano routine strike in one of our many short corners to give us a healthy 2-0 lead. With our spectator, a random bloke and his dog, started to leave the stand in this very one sided affair, we felt obliged to bring the crowd back by completely switching off for the last 15 mins of the half. Loanee Adam rose to the occasion and set up two goals for Nomads, ending the half with a competitive score line of 2-2.
Fearing Nomads will replicate their previous 40-3 scoreline again [Ed - the league website has now been corrected to 4-3 for that one!], after Shin’s inspirational speech, we are 100% concentrated again to start the 2nd half. We started off well by completely dominating the midfield. Will's thunderbolt off another short was enough to restore the lead and win 2 votes for man of the match, enough to take the coverted prise it in an extermly close contest. Ali was seen bullying Nomad’s not very big number 7 while Josh casually dribbled pass their midfield like cones. Eventually Nomads’ defence crumbled once again with Eric deflecting in from top of the D after a lovely pass from the big man Mariano himself. Ed also finally found the back of the net after waiting at the back post for the whole match. With the match seemingly over, we decided to relax in the last 10 minutes and Nomads scored the consolation goal. We go home with a 5-3 victory.

Very close this week but 2 people thought Will's short corner thunderbolt was pretty special. Turns out it was special enough to win Player of the Match with double the votes of every other contender.

When you work from home all week it does not matter which way round your shorts are. When you play hockey it turns out it does.
