Big girls do actually cry
Izzy MacDonald-ParryThe pitch at St Ives leaves a lot to be desired, it’s very flat, quite sandy and only has a fence around 2/4 of it. Although the hedge does give some time for rest mid-game when the ball goes missing. The wind was also really nice.
A very hungover Robyn did her best to try and inspire some confidence, the final line was ‘that’s it, that’s all I have’. A solid 3/10 for inspiration, a strong contender for lemon until about 10 minutes into the game I turned my ankle, dramatically lay on the floor crying, got carried off the pitch by Jess and Sarah and then came on again 10 minutes later. We scored late in the first half, Katie M drove the ball in, a stunning mis-trap from me meant the ball found Laura who’s reverse sweep trickled past the keeper on the far post. Overall play in the rest of that half was considerably better than the goal we scored.
Kim’s half time talk consisted of ‘be more Dave’. Translated this means be patient, play the ball around, don’t go through flat sticks, talk to each other. Second half was much better, we passed stick to stick (for the most part), switched a lot at the back and used the wings more effectively. Annie got super unlucky and hit the post from a tight angle. Laura got our second goal through the keeper’s legs following a driving run from Alice. Our third goal came from another driving run (theme of the day?) from me, we won a short which I converted with a strike. Annie would like to be noted as the assist here as she injected the ball. MoM votes were split between Katie M, Jenny, Laura, Loopy (who got votes for scoring 2 goals) Alice, Robyn, Saz and Annie. Annie, who started the game at the back and finished it as a forward, won MoM for being an all round 10/10.
