We are the champions (of the league)

A very sunny Saturday morning saw the L4s navigating diversions to get to St Ives - and a nervous energy filled the changing room pre-match. After the loss (and Hannah's injury) against Haverhill the previous week, this could be our chance to secure our promotion!

We knew that we had a good chance at a win - after our 7-1 victory against this team earlier in the season, and our lovely captain cheering us on from the sidelines.

After a rocky start on a very sandy pitch, we began to do what we do best - strong full-back defending from POM Ellie, tidy triangle passes between the defence and midfield, and some incredibly speedy runs down the wings by Kea and Amelia.

One lovely run by Amelia put her in prime position to score our first goal (after an incredible assist by Emily S, who was so committed to passing the ball that she managed to do it even while falling over (part of her LOM nomination)!

We continued to dominate, Mia holding her nerve during a 1 on 1, and not too long after our first goal we managed a second goal, expertly pushed across the line by Naomi G!

2-0 up, at half time.

Sadly, St Ives came back swinging at the start of the second half, managing to slip two goals past us and bringing us even.

The cheery mood with which we went into half time vanished, leaving a very stressful back line and a tense team.

But we kept it together - some lovely tackles from Bethan kept the ball in our attacking half, with the few St Ives breaks handled by Ginny and Ellie.

And then...a goal! Naomi had slipped the ball into goal past a distracted keeper - and we won!

During teas, we heard snippets of news about other league results - could it be? was it possible? YES! The L4s are league champions and go into the last match of the season next week top of the table (and the world!). An incredible day of hockey :)
