Cambridge South 3rd XI Fantasy Points and Values
Dave AstonMatt Lee £5.0m, Pts 6 (Clean sheet: 4, >50 minutes played: 2)
A reliable performance, not called into action much. More of a De Gea than a ball playing Ederson/Alisson, which is just how the players born in the last century prefer it.
Lloyd Morgan £4.0m, Pts 6 (Clean sheet: 4, >50 minutes played: 2)
An absolute steal at this price, not more expensive due to availability. Team has a 100% record when he plays (he’d better be available against March). Offers good attacking threat, but unlike Trent he can actually defend too.
Dave Aston £4.5m, Pts 4 (Clean sheet: 4 , >50 minutes played: 2, LOM: -2)
Generally reliable, but can be prone to forgetfulness, be it brains, shirt or banter. The 1,231st player to play for South. Hasn’t scored for the club in 200 years. Often falls victim to lemon smear campaigns, which can dent decent points returns.
Jimbo Yarrow £4.5m, Pts 6 (Clean sheet: 4, >50 minutes played: 2)
Strong Carragher like performer, but without the dodgy accent. Similar to Carragher, unlikely to get goals at the right end, but with a strong hit and dogged tackling, likely to get a steady amount of bonus points if the forward line don’t collude against him in the MOM voting.
Tom Anns £5.0m, Pts 6 (Clean sheet: 4, >50 minutes played: 2)
Like Aston, can often attract lemon votes in the interests of team camaraderie and spirit. Ever present so never a risk of a blank by picking him. Stops shorts so picks up assists points. A sick performer before during and after the match
Douglas Gibson £4.5m, Pts 7 (Clean sheet: 4, >50 minutes played: 2, bonus points: 1)
Mr dependable when he’s about. A commanding performance yesterday, playing every position across the backline. A Scottish warrior like Souness, but unlike Mr S he is unlikely to pick a fight with his own team, or indeed in an empty room
Adam Catley £5.0m, Pts 6 (Clean sheet: 4, >50 minutes played: 2)
The fantasy desirable, a defender who on certain days the captains entrusts into midfield. Great pivot at the back of the midfield, no assists but did the tika-taka passing which helped the boys control the game. Menzies would have been proud.
Alex Haglund: £5.5m, Pts 3 (Clean sheet: 1, > 50 minutes played: 2)
A very solid performance, got through more tackles in the midfield than N’Golo Kante. Falls 100% victim of the fantasy bonus points scoring system that is inherently biased towards attacking contributions only.
Shin Kim: £5.5m, Pts 11 (Clean Sheet: 1 , >50 minutes played: 2, goals: 5, assists: 3)
Opened the scoring with his first goal of the season, typically flair, which he spent the rest of the half telling me about. A good egg, on the pitch as will play anywhere you ask him, and off the pitch as he’ll always be in Lola’s. All this despite being an Arsenal fan, well done
Jack Chalk: £10.5m, Pts 11 (>50 minutes played: 2, goals: 4, assists: 3, bonus points: 2)
Pricey, but worth it. Always plays, and scores even when the manager plays Pep positional roulette and shifts him to right back. Don’t remember his goal today but it was probably from about ½ yard out. Value may prohibit you from selecting him, Barton and Whittaker in the same fantasy side though
Joe Whittaker: £10.0m, pts 6 (>50 minutes played: 2, goals: 4)
The Harry Kane of the team. Right place right time in and around the D, and he’s got a penalty miss in his locker too. Good at spotting when I get a green card, when others are prone to forget. See Chalk on the value front
George Anderson: £7.5m, pts 11 (>50 minutes played: 2, assists: 6, bonus points: 3)
A striker on paper, but played the deep lying Modric role today, spraying aerial after aerial from inside his own half, the best of which led to Whittaker’s goal. Just like Modric was at Spurs, accused of being a resident ringer by the opposition. Can score attacking returns in bursts, so definitely worth a risk on the triple captain front as you’ll be rewarded if you choose the right game.
Charlie Curedale- Rayner: £7.0m, pts 6 (>50 minutes played: goals: 4)
Great finish for South’s third goal from a Jack Chalk bobbler. Could definitely appreciate in value if he goes on a run of goals. New to the club so worth a punt next season as always need a settling in period in the first campaign.
In absentia
Seb Dias: £5.0m
Rock solid, but injury prone. Does the simple stuff well
Ben Lye: £5.5m
Solid between the sticks, and often can have a double gameweek.
James Menzies: £7.0m
Known as the metronome, because he makes everything tick. If you got points for doughy dummies, he’d be £15m
Chris Walsh: £7.0m
Responsible for getting Annsy to all games, its amazing he managed without him yesterday. Decent attacking threat in the opposition D, particularly when we’re down to 9 men.
Jonny Camp: £6.5m
Attacking threat with decent pace. Like an Aarron Lennon in his prime
Josh Oldfield: £4.0m
Value option at the back, will get clean sheets but can have blank weeks
Tom Blair: £5.5m
A value striking bench option, if you feel the need to blow the budget on Barton and Chalk.
