M6 0-3 City of Peterborough Mens 7

South performed admirably today as we kept up the intensity through the whole match.

Attack wise we had some great runs from Henry and Jo getting through the enemy defense lines, and plenty of on-target shots from Andy in the second half.

However the most chances we had were the short corners, as it seems the opponent’s defense strategy is to employ high risk ‘tactical’ fouling. Just me alone got fouled at least a dozen times, I was shoved, my stick was stepped on, at one point three men tried to do a rugby tackle (body dive) at me, which thankly awarded us with plenty of short corners, in addition of sending an opponent off the field (carded). With the tremendous amount of short corners given to us, instead of seeking to put the ball into the net, we decided to count how many times we can miss Howards stick for a deflection goal.

Our defenders did have a great workout, many early interceptions from Will (MoM) and Ky that gave us plenty of counter attacks, Sean sacrificing his body defending short corners (and still managed to keep his cool), Jo fended off quite a few fancy mid air strikes, and lastly let’s not forget Andy’s ultimate defense move of ball sitting. The amazing defense kept the opponent at bay most of the time, unfortunately a few attackers did manage to run past the defenders on rare occasions which unlucky landed us a 3-0 defeat.

Despite being behind on scores for three quarters of the game, the Souths never stopped giving their all, especially the second half it felt even more intense with plenty of actions on both sides of the pitch, I would say in terms of mental fortitude we definitely came out on top.
