An acceptable start to the year

Sandy Taylor

This match report presented in the form of a series of unordered observations about the game:

  • We had decent play around the D and can't say we didn't have some chances, probably more than they did. Rob may be kicking himself right now.
  • MoM went almost unanimously to Harry Warner for racing around contributing to many of our best chances, impressive in only a second proper match!
  • Contrary to a recent suggestion, it turns out you can at least temporarily stop John Greaves playing hockey by smashing a ball into his knee really hard.
  • Max gets a MoM mention for especially enthusiastic defence in pursuit of beating his Dad playing for the opposition. BD will be lecturing themselves on how they must go towards the ball or it will get intercepted...
  • One day we will actually get someone properly on the other end of one of Nev's power-balls into the D and it will be amazing.
  • A strong defence gave Bourne Deeping very few chances...but not none, solid goalkeeping from Joe kept things even.
  • We really can pass the ball around the back if the midfielders shout at the defenders enough.
  • LoM votes went to several different things. The lack of consensus reflects the general high quality game. The website chooses to immortalise the Bourne Deeping defender that took out John.
  • The wind speed was an unusual 1000mph but both teams gamely pushed through it.
  • All in all a solid start to the season...we could have won, but on the other hand we've never beaten Bourne Deeping before and our best result was a single draw from 3 previous matches - plus this one was apparently Bourne Deeping 4s whereas all the previous ones were their 5s. This was probably the most promising game of all of them. Maybe next time.
  • While writing the above I checked the match report from the last game against this team and it says "John got injured in the first half, the opponent hit his leg out of frustration because of how well the M6s were doing". Hmm. Maybe knee pads for John next time we play Bourne Deeping.
