The match was definitely a tale of two halves. We knew this was going to be a tricky one with an international keeper in the goal saving everything under the sun, and the D always becoming congested. In the first half, we had some wonderful moments but their big hitters at the back were getting through our press. Despite lots of chances, 0-0 at half time.
After a team talk from Coach Paul to not pass through players, 3/4 press and to pass the ball to the injector on the post in the short, we came back on the pitch feeling positive. So much so within 10 minutes we scored 3 goals. Lily bagged herself a brace with a few tumbles and roly polys in between (sorry Lily, Josh was seen running on the sideline with the go-pro going “no one noticed!”) Then we were given a short, ok Paul let’s see if you idea works - Hannah injected the ball top D to Jess who made a hard push pass back to hannah who beautifully deflected it on her reverse top of the net - stunning! That will look good on the go pro, 3:0.
With some beautiful switches round the back from Jenny, Mel, Izzy, Emma and Rhian, and some wonderful runs from Soph, Rebecca, Hannah and Mollie, pivoting the ball all over the pitch, Rhi took it upon herself to slap the ball into the goal and then proceeded to end up on the floor. I believe the goalie actually headed this into the goal. I then scored a fantastic goal but unfortunately was with my shin - disallowed, whoops! Lily then got told off by the umpire for her language, another whoops!
With some lovely darting runs from our forwards, Jess, Emily, Rhi and Lily, along came another goal from Mollie. This time not a deflection, a reverse slap that made it into the goal. This was also helped by the fact Jess and Emily stood directly in front of the keeper so she had no chance of seeing Mollies shot. Zoe smothered their centre forward at the end of the match and defended a short corner very well to keep a clean sheet.
The game ended 5:0 with some happy girlies and a happy Paul. Well played girlies. I wasn’t at teas so I’m unsure of the details of the results but Lily received POM for her lovely goals and running everywhere, Jenny and Jess were joint LOMS, with Jenny being voted for “I don’t even recognise our own goalie” and Jess for her “cheeky tackle #magic” it was deemed that I should recieve Lemon this week - you are welcome Jenny!
Quick turnaround for the 2s as we play Uni on Sunday, yes a Sunday, but we will be ready. Bring on another 3 points and lots of goals!
