Disney…

Kim Cooil

And so it begins, “A tale as old as time” of heroes and heroins, of damsels, of dragons (not even the Norwich variety), of fortresses, of sleeping beauties???

This real life Cinderella’s day started at around 6.15am, with mouths to feed, floors to sweep, washing to be done…whilst the rest of the team could continue their slumber of 100 years.

Cinderella arrived at the pitch late, but thanks to her fairy godmother Kerryn, at least with a wand that could possible create some magic?!! (Cheers also to the rest of yeee villains for not jumping to my aid).

The game started like most Disney films, slightly slow, but with a clear direction the story was to unfold. IES half court pressed us, which sucked the life out of us at times, but like the new-age Disney princesses/ heroins we are, we did not let that get the better of us.

South scored in the first half with a Katie score, with BRAVEry likened to Mulan on the battle field.

We weren’t without our own misfortunes though, with more than our fair share of Mickey Mouse passes..Loopy made some Herculean saves in both halves, notably a diving stick save bottom right, and a surprise deflection up high.

Half time pep talk: Izzy.. we actually like each other aka “you’ve got a friend in me”…

Second half started with Kerryn, once again stealing from the rich to give to the poor…chasing the ball down and making interceptions. Anna also had an amazing game until her nose grew like Pinocchios after colliding with a IES stick.

Sophie was at times being pushed and shoved by IES’ answer to Captain Hook, Shere Khan and Scar. Never fear with the Tarzan like strength of 10 men, Soph brushed passed them with ease, except for one time when IES got the Disney films mixed up and tried to steal her shoe… back on track as the shoe fitted, Soph scored a diving deflection far post!!

Upfront the likes of Maddy, Lily and Lucy were true Disney heroes, making some

GENIEus runs off the ball. The best Disney trio… Flora, Fauna and Merryweather? More like Banzai, Shenzi and Ed. I will leave it with you to decide which is which… Hannah SNOWhite was also making light work of the 7 defensive dwarfs.

Evie channelling her inner Pocahontas, making some excellent decisions and was as always “steady as a beating drum”. Sarah also had some amazing runs flying down the wing on a magic carpet ride.

Speaking of magic; At one point there was some magic in the middle thanks to Kerryns wand (the wand chooses the wizard Mr Potter) only for normal service to resume..With the whole team Moan(a)ing at me for my purest of hearts moment (bizarre as usually I’m more queen of hearts than pure of hearts). Insert “Adam, it’s a long”.

Kate Dixon still Moan(a)ing about my decision… long corner, Herculean dive…GOAL to the Disney villains (Let it go…. Let it go….)

Hakuna Matata….it means no worries. South rallied with a 3rd goal from Izzy, ice cool like Elsa… their goal keeper Frozen in fear as a drag flick flew past her into the netting.

The final whistle blew with a ROAR from Kate likened to that from Simba on pride rock, the battle was won.

End credits roll

Not bringing her stick to the game and overturning an umpire’s decision to give them a long corner which lead to their goal… don’t let this knock your confidence all star
