First draw of the season

Sandy Taylor

A good even game...so even that in fact it's the first draw for the 6s (or in this case officially the 6xs) all season.

As usual with development team opponents we weren't sure what to expect in terms of strength. We had defeated them in the preceding match-up in a week where most of their stronger players weren't available, but this time could definitely see players players hanging around from the preceding Nomads 3s game (won by CSHC M5s!).

What we got was a good, balanced game. Both teams had a mixture of younger/junior and more experienced players, but all working together well for a lot of movement up and down the field.

South got the first goal around midway through the first half, a product of a ball sent strongly through to Jesse staking out the forward wing, who smoothly took it up for a cross in to get batted past the goalkeeper by Rob. This maneuver has been working well for us, very reminiscent of the same thing in the previous game.

Unfortunately Nomads fought back hard and equalised only a few minutes later. We went into half time enjoying this tense balance and resolving to calmly keep our shape to take control of the second half.

And about that second half, it was enjoyable 35 minutes of hockey but nobody scored and I can't remember too much about it except that everyone played a real good game. Both teams struggled hard to score a winning goal but neither succeeded - maybe Nomads came closest with a heart-stopping ball across the net deflected just wide by a well-placed winger, but we had our own chances.

Man of the match went to Jude for a very energetic game making constant trouble in midfield. Miles took lemon for not taking a sideline hit in dramatic fashion, via a confusing set of circumstances that I still don't really understand but probably involve "yes you should actually do the thing where you wear a bib if you're waiting to sub on the sideline".

Not taking a sideline hit in relatively spectacular fashion
