According to the historical record: we won!
Sandy TaylorAs the days of the week tick by, the match report seems like such a minor detail compared to the task of getting at least 11 players on the right hockey pitch at the right time. And then the match breezes by and that's all jolly good until you remember a couple of days later that you never did make someone write something about it.
So anyway, that's where we are now. Logic dictates that this match did happen, and the website records a 2-0 win, but I don't really remember and we're already halfway to next week and I need to get that team out...
Those things being as they are, here's the executive summary:
- Prematch: Keep it calm and simple, high energy but not sloppy.
- Early match: 50% success, high energy but also sloppy.
- Goal! How did it happen? I can't remember. Apparently I told GMS that Harry B scored in minute 10.
- Another 25 minutes of slightly hectic success. Miles made a great 1v1 save that may have made all the difference to morale.
- Half time: No, we said _not_ sloppy. General agreement.
- Some adjustment of playing positions because we are an efficient hockey playing machine that can spot the need for this sort of thing.
- Second half: Better! Hairy at times, one particular Kettering strike unluckily catching the post instead of the net.
- Goal! This one from Jordan. Can't remember this one either.
Mostly I remember this just being a pretty good game of hockey. I think the quality of the opposition made us feel on the back foot more than we actually were. Kettering were a strong team and played well, this match could easily have been closer. But it's easy to focus on the bad and forget that we came out with the win anyway because we did actually play a solid game for the most part. I think it was better played than any other recently, and we're moving in the right direction week by week.
