No, that’s not a typo

A late pushback on a cold dark day with sleet in the air, and a general shortage of players across the club are not auspicious for a match against a team who are contending to win the league. Peterborough scored their first goal within a few seconds of pushback. Was this going to be another annihilation for the L6s? Maybe not – we made it to half time only 3 goals down. Could be hope yet? After a receiving a few Lemons for a lack of half time sweets, captain Lou made sure the kit bag was well stocked this weekend. But apparently the L6s are a hungry bunch, and one bag of Jelly Babies wasn’t suitable satisfaction. With only one sub, and an injury taking us down to just 11 in the second half, maybe they had a point. And maybe we should have had some of whatever Peterborough had in their break – once again, they started the second half with an onslaught on our goal. Tadi once again got the chance to pull off lots of fantastic saves. Throughout the game, South were making good use of width and triangles for our defensive hit outs. Getting the ball all the way up to the other goal proved trickier though, although we never gave up, and there were some good runs and drives up the pitch from the defence. The defence were very busy throughout the game, and Flo was a deserved PoM winner for so many tackles and clearances, meaning Peterborough really had to work hard for their goals.

Well done to the whole team for not giving up and continuing to enjoy our hockey against the odds. Shout out to Rosie (doubling up after playing L5s in the morning), Freya and Josie for lots of midfield energy, and Meg for adapting to play up front.

Next week is a short away trip to Newmarket, currently sitting just above us in the league, so we can hope for a more competitive and even game. I won’t jinx it by saying a point as well…

Apparently one bag of half time sweets is insufficient...
