Next time someone else will write the match report

Sandy Taylor

When trying to wrangle each weekend's players into teams that will all get to the right pitch at the right time wearing the right colour, writing the match report seems like a distant issue. As happy memories of the game fade, one remembers also that you never did sort that. I believe I may have expressed this thought in one or more previous match reports.

Let the main message of the match report therefore be this: someone else shall write the match report next week.

In the spirit of actually saying something about the game:

  • When I saw the season's fixture list started with Wisbech 3s, I thought "oo er could be a tough one".
  • When I experienced our performance in pre-season I thought "hey we've got something going here".
  • When I selected the team I thought "cor strong week let's see what we can do".
  • When I supported the first 30 seconds of play I thought "wow look at the ball bounce around".
  • When I saw the ball enter the opposing net immediately after the last thought, I stopped thinking too hard and enjoyed an excellent game of hockey.

Although we scored in the first minute, Wisbech were a strong and experienced team and pressed hard the whole game while resisting quite a few more good chances on our part. It took until well into the second half for Rob to find the second, receiving the ball in a well managed top-D position from which to cannily beat the keeper in a 1:1 before the frustrated defenders could get back. This continuing great play won Rob MoM honours. I received lemon for expressing some of the above thoughts in an incautious fashion.

Cracking performance owning the top of the D, with a little masterclass in a 1:1 with the keeper while achieving our long-awaited second goal
