Scapegoat

In the first few minutes of the game, Peterborough came out strong and forced us to play in our own half. After handling the initial pressure, we began to gain confidence and started to push the play towards their goal. The team was working well together, finding good passes, making good runs and attacking the D. We had a painful number of chances that we couldn’t quite convert. It was hard to keep count of how many tap-ins the forwards missed. Nevertheless, we managed to control the opposition for most of the first half. On the occasions that Peterborough managed to counter us, we were mostly able to avoid anything disastrous. Ben made several great saves that kept us in the game. However, not all of them could be stopped as we conceded a goal to a short corner.

At half time, despite the score being 0-1, we recognised that we could still come away with some points.

Soon after the second half started, we managed to win a short corner. James Menzies got a touch of the ball at the back post and levelled the score with a goal reminiscent of his last week’s. For the rest of the half, almost all of the play was in Peterborough’s end. As the clock was ticking and we just couldn’t score, the opposition began to time waste and play for a draw, which only added to our frustration.

The game ended in a 1-1 draw. Whilst we have previously celebrated getting a point, this was a disappointing draw. We had all played very well (other than when it came to scoring) and were just disheartened by not being able to get the win.

This frustration was evident when everyone decided to unjustly vent their anger during the voting.

Ricardo, fearing a consecutive lemon vote after he missed a big opportunity to score, decided to throw me under the bus and save himself. He capitalised on the emotional vulnerability of the team after a frustrating draw and used me as a scapegoat. He felt the need to spread rumours about me of which said rumours resulted in me narrowly winning the lemon of the match. I had supposedly made a snobby comment when justifying my lack of goals and said I preferred winning man of the match awards. Of course, I definitely did not say that statement and it’s all nonsense.

Tom Henderson easily won the man of the match for his great work at the back and his smooth aerials. Let’s keep him.
