M3s Vs Wisbech Away
Christopher ClarkA long journey to Wisbech and back again is always tough (like a journey to Mordor with the distance), but losing makes it far worse. The 3’s keep turning in majority good hockey but moments of poor play mean we are not getting the results (I do not believe the darkness will endure). We went 1-0 up early through a sliding back post finish from Josh R, a classic play. Unfortunately, we lost focus and allowed Wisbech to score and level the result. Around this time, I went round a Wisbech player (in a move later he said made him look like a t**t) and so he stuck a foot out at me. In response I gave him a little finger waggle and was cursed with lemon. We then went 2-1 down, pulled a draw back with a drag flick (from me, you’re welcome, still have never scored from open play) and then conceded a short late on (Evil cannot create anything new; it can only corrupt and ruin what good forces have invented or made). There was some excellent work across the team, but Dave S was a revelation at left back. Tackles, tomahawks, aerial ability the full shebang. A deserved POM. As I’m currently watching Lord of the Rings, here is the M3’s team as characters.
Dave Shanahan- Gandalf the White- Potentially a magician, only stronger now in a new guise (full back). Similarly to Gandalf, everyone is excited when Dave comes to town.
Seb Dias- Aragorn (Strider era)- Seb has the air of royalty around him as captain, but until we can triumph over the forces of evil (win a game) he is not yet crowned
Ben Lye- Treebeard- Tall, dependable and with remarkable reach, Ben is still in the prime of his career, just like the ents were entering a new prime for them.
Matt Langley- Samwise Gamgee- The most dependable aid possible, always an option out. Equally likes to talk about his garden.
Christopher Clark- Legolas- Full of accurate strikes (flick), also definitely a bit of a knob (for Legolas: thinking he’s cooler than Gimli/ for me: finger waggle, comparing myself to Legolas). Thinks he’s better because he’s an elf (someone who just rinsed their forward).
Josh Rollason- Gimli- A born sprinter. Josh and I may have different methods of attack but the same end result.
Gabe Wolff- Peregrin Took- Youthful but with a mischievous edge (Gabe got carded again). Can he keep himself out of trouble? Equally a key team member.
Riccardo Nori- Meriadoc Brandybuck- The other half of a youthful duo. Both with a push for entertainment but equally indispensable to the storyline (team).
Douglas Gibson- Elrond- Imperious, reliable and a voice of reason. Key for our defensive effort.
Jamie Coltman- Boromir- Vital, a force for good but tragically two shots wide by a matter of inches, Boromir surely wished the shots that hit him were wide. A central asset to the team.
Jack Chalk- Faramir- Part of a striking brotherhood that always is a threat. Jack roams into foreign lands (Wisbech) and aims to strike fear.
Alex Pashley- Radagast the Brown- Obviously not in the Lord of the Rings, however the comparison is perfect. Both have swish, environmentally friendly whips that I am quite jealous of. Does Pash also speak to animals?
Danny Mcree- Théoden- Now without the weight of captaincy (Grima) whispering in his ear, Danny seems to be more comfortable playing hockey and equally leads marauding cavalry charges (runs up the wing) to target the forces of evil.
Josh Oldfield- The army of the dead- At the call of Aragorn (Seb) Josh has returned into the fold. A key part of the fight against Wisbech and a potentially supernatural assistance?
David Shanahan
Whoever found out Dave can play wingback might deserve this award actually... Phenomenal.
