L5s’ League Debut (and Flashy New Away Kit Debut!)

Nicole Mills

The newly formed L5s have gone from strength to strength in the pre-season friendlies, and Saturday’s match was no different. With a current squad of thirty keen players (eleven new to South this year), we are settling into our positions well.

With two players doubling up from the Huntingdon’s first team, we were prepared for a tough match. South held their own in the first half, with an unfortunate goal conceded following Huntington’s first penalty corner.

Full of drive (and watermelon) we threw ourselves into the second half. Despite multiple shots on goal from Polly, Juliette, Hannah, Anna and Fi, luck just wasn’t working in our favour, with two goals from Huntingdon breaking through our strong defence. In the final half our hard work paid off: with consistently strong performances from our mids we were able to get back into the opposition’s D and Juliette scored our first goal of the league season. The first of many, I am sure.

A strong performance by all players was reflected in the spread of MoM votes, with nominations for myself, Annabel, Olivia and Juliette, with Rebecca clenching the title for her strong, consistent defence.

A final score of one-three is no mean feat, as overall we had far more possession and more shots on goal than our opposition. Hopefully things will fall in our favour next Saturday.

Forgetting to take hockey stick back onto the pitch after half time. Doh.
