The Spurious Case of Sluggish South

James Hayes

The match started well against second in the table Spalding 3s, with both sides quite evenly matched.

Spalding managed to take an early lead from a fast attack before South worked they way into the game, eventually levelling the scored with a short corner tipped in by James H. This took the game to half time with the score level at 1-1.

A quick team talk and swig of water saw South back underway in the second half and again taking the advantage to move the score 2-1 in their favour after a quick snipe from guest star Jack Chalk.

It was at this point when the mist descended upon Long Road. There has been much speculation around the root cause; including everything from "a localised La Niña", to "Spalding's manager started muttering menacingly under their breath".

Regardless, the result was the same, South entered a waking stupor and Spalding whipped two goals in the space of as many minutes past the defence. A final goal later in the half sealed the deal, and satisfied with their work, the curse was lifted and the game called to an end with the result reading 2-4.

How did that happen?

Overly aggressive play against... Someone/something?
