M6 0-1 St Ives Mens 4
Ky HoFirst attempt - Short version
See last week's report. Ditto.
Second attempt.
It was the best of games and it was the worst of games.
We arrived to a dark, wet and windy 5:00 pm start at St Ives and some of the team members had their minds on being able to arrive at the Christmas party on time after the game...
Stop, stop, stop, you are no Charles Dickens...
Third attempt.
How about you write it in such a way that helps the readers to know more about your team mates. "Y…eah.., OK"
Jo Dant (GK)
Made some fantastic saves during the game as a GK. As captain of the team he gave an inspiration team talk before the game and at half time. His other contributions include collects payments after games and at P&P. Hands out bibs and organise the P&P crowd.
Did you know:
Jo even does umpiring for the club and in his spare time he reads up on Fly Fishing, a book by J R Hartley
Sand Taylor (RB)
More than played his part in holding off St Ives for almost the entire game. Great timing on some of the tackles.
Did you know:
Not having played hockey before, Sandy has been honing his skills at P&P evenings on a number of occasions and now he finally joined us in a competitive game. No St Ives player noticed that this was his first proper game of hockey.
Dan Talmage (CB)
Defended with great skill and balance. Carried the fight to St Ives. His energy was boundless. Never put a stick wrong all match .
Did you know:
He was a St Ives alumnus and we are lucky to have him and his son James in the team (see later).
Will Burscough (LB)
Another member of the team who kept the St Ives attacking waves at bay. Tackle after tackle and run after run and is quick enough to keep up with the St Ives Young 'uns.
Did you know:
Will has even played in midfield this season and did an excellent job. He is yet another ARM employee and we have had a few from there over the years
Ky Ho (CB)
The author of this report and hate self-assessment. Yep, I don't like doing that at work as well
Did you know:
Ky has helped to manage the 3rd team in 1991-1993 and the 4th team in 2005-2006
Andy Thomas (LM)
Played like a seasoned midfielder, tackled well, ran up to support the attack and was ran back from the half-way line to help with defensive short-corners. Ever present at in the pub after the games
Did you know:
Andy also does kiddies’ swimming lessons and he develops mobile phone apps as one of his many talents
Wilco Dijkstra (CM)
Wilco stopped many a St Ives attack with his go-go gadget long arms, he reaches the balls that other players cannot reach. Worked extremely hard through-out the match
Did you know:
Wilco never likes arriving to anything too early. If he does, you know your watch is wrong
George Bett (CM)
Ran his heart out and broke up play along side Wilco. Always there for the team and bringing the wide players into the game
A real asset to the club since he joined.
Did you know:
George is a robotic and software engineer and originates from South Wales
Kieran Birch (RM)
Our own younger version of Stuart Board (or is it Malfoy?). Blond, slim and effortlessly quick. Helped out the defence at one end and stretching his older opponent at the other
Did you know:
Kieran is one of the first to come through our youth system and others are following. The efforts of those volunteering to help with the kids on a Saturday morning are bearing fruit
Matt Withington (CM)
Matt has silky skills and good in possession. The team has benefited from his presence in this game. His hard work paid off.
Did you know:
Matt transferred from Nomads just before the transfer deadline was closed earlier this season. He has actually played for us and against us. His mum and sister play with South and so are some of his old school mates. He is now amongst friends and family.
John Greaves (Fwd)
Committed, always a thorn in the opposition’s defence. They are always grateful to leave the pitch with their sticks intact
Did you know:
To demonstrate how long John has been our chairman, can anyone remember who his predecessor is? John has never ever owned anything made by Samsung
James Talmage (Fwd)
Played on the left wing. Determined, tested himself well against a much more experienced opponent and he even went past him a few times.
Did you know:
James is another product of our youth set up. We get additional benefit of having his dad in the club as well. The future is in good hands
James Yu (Fwd)
Ran up, down and side-ways. Also put in plenty of tackles to boot. The St Ives defence could never rest
Did you know
James is a regular attendee at P&P, training and matches. Very committed and made vast strides in his game in the last 3 years.
It was a very good team performance and everyone worked for each other. It is rewarding to play in such games. For once we didn’t do the democratic MoM and LoM voting, so I have to do the honours of picking MoM. This will be shared between Wilco, Dan and Sandy
