Celebrating for Christmas and the Win
Rhi DaviesAfter one round of the league complete, the L2s were ready for their match against CoP which they won 4-0 at the beginning of the season. The weather had changed from our last encounter instead of covering up with sun cream the girls were loading up the layers to brace for a cold rainy British afternoon.
The game started well with some strong possession through the midfield and great defensive play showed that this was going to be a game we could win, if we could just convert the possession in the oppositions D. Our prayers were answered when Tess took a magnificent strike from the top of the D straight into the corner of the goal 1-0, South. We continued to show our skills with some great runs along the wing from Juliet, Katie G and Jenny as well as Haley maintaining our rock in the middle. Bryony had a relatively quite first half stepping up on the occasions the opposition tried to get the ball past. Short corners came and went but unfortunately no more goals in the first half.
CoP came out all guns firing at the second half with some of their younger players trying to nip around our defence, Nic, Niamh and Katie H were having none of it clearing the ball out wide and building up our attacks. With the ball transitioned from Tiffany in the middle, twin, Dani streamed down the pitch ready for a 1-1 with the keeper. Taking the keeper wide Dani slotted the ball calmly into the back of the goal 2-0, South.
Further opportunities came but no more goals leaving the final score at 2-0, a win for Christmas and just in time to get ready for the Christmas Social.
MoM was award to our voyager Grace, who leaves us for pasters greener, we wish her all the best and hope to see her soon. LoM, for only the third time this season, went to Rhi for one of her traditional roly-poly’s, this time backwards (everyone is just jealous of how ‘elegantly’ she falls).
