Through the mist came a bag full of cake

The 2s headed to Wilberforce road on a very foggy Saturday lunch time. The lack of visibility
led Juliet to pick up yellow socks instead of purple, and caused Niamh and Sarah to get lost in the maze of hidden changing rooms. However, through the mist eventually came Katie Gibson with a bag full of cake - a beacon to guide us  with out onto the pitches and tempt us to victory. We gathered around the ceremonial bag of cake to undergo the sacred 'quick feet' ritual led by Jenny - and then decided to let this fog related metaphor go before it got out of hand.

Egged on by Lauren on the sideline, we got ourselves warmed up and commited to carry on the momentum of a great training session into what we knew would be a tough match. We were right - as usual City were fast and skillful and playing with confidence on their home pitch with lots of support. However, we rose to their intensity and won a couple of short corners early doors. Despite great attempts from Dani, the city keeper kept us from converting them, but could sense we may well have goals on the horizon and stayed patient. City were not dettered, and the defensive players put in an almighty shift to see off the city attackers. Sarah made a lot of excellent interceptions and drives down the line - linking up brilliantly with Katie to get us out of trouble. Eventually one such break away saw Juliet get hold of the ball in their D and sneak the ball under the goalies foot to get us up 1-0. With the pressure oh so slightly lifted we started to play with more confidence. Tess and Rhi worked the ball in to the D many times to create a threat, whilst Rebecca and Charlotte gave the city midfield a nightmare with their skills. The match was fast paced and the stakes were high - which may have caused a few of our players to get a little too vocal at times (naming no names...), but a half time break allowed us to settle down and prepare to bring home the 3 points we needed.

The pressure from out Cambridge rivals didn't ease up, Nichola and Niamh put in a super work rate to maintain a clean sheet and keep us looking dangerous on the counter. Tiff made some great runs to get us up in their half and was unlucky not to score. Everyone worked so hard and despite many tired legs it payed off in the last 10 minuted of the match where afer a great cross to the P-Spot, Juliette bagged her 2nd goal and bagged us the win and herself POM!

After the final whilstle that pesky fog returned and saw LOM Tess saunter of the pitch in a hurry without her stick.

A cracking result from a tricky opponent - well done girls.
