4-0 win
High energy and high intensity was the plan of action on this particular Saturday morning
And what a quick success that plan was with Pete Finding hitting the back of the net from the top of the D within the first 2 minutes of the game.
This early goal perfectly set the pace for the rest of the first half with the second goal coming about 15 minutes later from a fabulous run by Thomas Grove which cut apart the Stortford defence to allow the ball to be pulled back for Pete Finding to slot home his second goal from the top of the D again.
Let's keep up the pressure was the instruction at halftime from Joe
Which was exactly what South did as our third goal came quickly a few minutes into the second half from a series of sustained shot corners which ended up leading to a South flick which Peter Finding quickly claimed and slotted home to secure his first hat trick of the season (Clearly attempting to go for the golden stick award already )
From here it would have been easy for the 5ths to see out the game on a 3-0 win but we kept pushing allowing for a fourth goal from Jordan Walker which was a classic lesson in ice-cold finishing as he battled with the Stortford keeper at close range to eventually slot it past his feet.
We must however not forget the absolutely stellar work of our defence from Martin Grove, Alan Radford, Sandy Talyor, Danny McCree and keeper Ben Lye which allowed us to keep our first clean sheet of the season (hopefully a good sign)
Special credit to Sandy Talyor however whose performance as right and left back earned him his first man of the match for the 5ths
Other important mentions go to George Betts for his work in the middle and Alec Alston for some more stick skill art through the midfield.
All in all a very good friendly and hopefully a great sign of things to come if the 5ths can keep up this level for the next few games of the season.
