M2 3-5 Bourne Deeping Mens 1

Stu Rimmer

For the penultimate game of the season, south hosted Bourne Deeping, who had successfully navigated the lengthy drive from the far north for the last game of the day at 4.30.

The game started in lively fashion with good chances at both ends, but the visitors opened the scoring after some loose play from the back. Amidst calls of ‘calm’ and ‘slow it down’, Stu took a quick 16 and passed straight into the oppo’s press. The striker entered the d, fluffed his shot, which somehow squirmed past Matt, courtesy of a deflection from Ethan.  Not the start we were looking for.

It woke South up though, who through Hockley’s persistence and flare, combined with some lovely running from Lamming and Whitaker, got back into the game.

A slick short corner routine came to left slip, Rimmer passing neatly to the back post for Pete to tuck in around the keeper.  More like it.

The pressure kept coming and a second shorty snuck in with John lurking at the front post for a touch home after the keeper spilled the intial shot.

The game should have probably finished there, as South continued to dominate possession through Pudds and Dimi, with various chances for the rest of the first half.

A composed half time team talk included the normal classics:
- More of the same lads (as opposed to…?)
- Let’s keep playing our game (general nods)
- We’ve still got the second half to play for (that’s generally the case at half time)

So naturally, we lost it in the first 10 of the second half (which quickly became a second half which wasn’t all to play for…)

Bourne to their credit had a strong spell to bang in a few goals in quick succession, two sneaking by Matt’s front post and another tap in off one of their many shorties. No idea where the 5th came from.

‘Deep-in’ to the game (thanks @Dave Aston) Rimmer pulled one back with a straight strike from top d but sadly it wasn’t enough to turn the tide overall.

One more to go from a good season overall, a local derby under the floodlights at City.

Mom to Wicks for his last game for the club (sympathy vote)

Lom Rimmer for some sketchy passing from defence (the assist and goal not enough lads?!).
