Women's Masters Evening Hockey

One of the trends in the game of recent years has been the growth of Masters' hockey for older players.  Some are looking to take up a new sport and others to get back into the hockey after a break, maybe inspired by their children taking up the game. There are also those who already play in the open-age formats but like the opportunity to play with a group of their peers.

Responding to this demand, Cambridge South has launched a new Women's Master's weekly 'pay-and-play' session, aimed at players in the Over-35 category and above (i.e. born before 1985).

It follows the same format as the club's open-age mixed pay-and-play sessions - a casual half pitch knock-around game which players can turn up to with no need to book and no umpires or keeping score, just a chance to run around with a hockey stick for some fun and exercise in a friendly, non-competitive session!

During the summer off-season until the end of August the sessions are running Mondays 20.00-21.00 at the club's pitch at Long Road Sixth Form College. From the start of September throughout the hockey season until the end of March they will switch to Thursdays 19.00-19.45. The cost is £4 a session (£2 unwaged), dropping to £3/£1.50 from September, payable on the night by cash or card. All new players get their first session free to try it out!

The sessions are open to all, club members or not, and spare sticks, bibs and balls are all provided. So if you fancy it, or know someone who might, come along and give it a go!

For those players new or returning to the game who may be interested in playing more regularly, the club is also running free 'Back  to Hockey' sessions ahead of the new hockey season. These are coached sessions covering basic skills and will run on the last 4 Thursdays in August (8th to 29th), 19.30-20.30 at Long Road. The sessions will build skills through repetition so no need to worry if you can't make all 4 sessions, come along to those you can.
