An excited group of Cambridge South Under 12 and Under 14 girls travelled to the exotic destination of Bury St Edmunds for the inaugural CSHC junior’s hockey tour last weekend, 2nd and 3rd March.
The fun started with a mini-golf tournament where both golf and counting skills were put to the test. The kids’ tournament ended up with a tense play-off for 3rd place resulting in Kaylee, Emily and Rosie on the podium. Not wanting to be left out, the parents also played with Freya being crowned champion after an impressive round, leaving the dads in her group reconsidering their golf club membership. See below for the golf trophy winners!
The Old Canon Brewery in Bury St Edmunds admirably hosted all 43 of us for a fantastic chilli followed by brownies and ice-cream and awards were presented to the Coach’s Players of the Season. Very well done to both Polly (U12) and Emily (U14) for your well deserved trophies.
The tour party progressed back to our Premier Inn, where the parents took up residency in the bar whilst the children partied away in one brave parent’s room. As he rightly pointed out, it wasn’t his room…
There is nothing like an all-you-can-eat breakfast to set you up for the day and the South girls made the most of theirs. Breakfast provided much needed fuel for the hockey tournament at Culford School. The U14s faced strong opposition from Sudbury and Harleston Magpies and fought admirably in back-to-back games. Meanwhile, the U12s had closer matches against Sudbury and Bury St Edmunds, narrowly missing out on wins in both games.
South parents kindly supplied cake for all the teams and match officials – a lovely end to a truly fantastic hockey tour!
