The U10 boys are buzzing after some fantastic hockey

Cambridge South Juniors proudly presented three teams at the ‘In2 Hockey’ county championship at the Cambridge University Sports Ground on Sunday 27th March.  We put in two U10 Boys teams along with one team in the U12 Boys category.  All in all a valuable experience, some smashing hockey played, and most importantly a lot of fun had by all!

U10 Boys A team report

The A team had a very successful tournament finishing 3rd and only one point (or one goal) off from the silver (medal) position.  An amazing achievement!  The full results from this team...

Game 1 vs Cam City: L 0-2 - a very close match and really only two excellent finishes proved the difference
Game 2. vs Cam South B: W 1-0 - it was very close and the As only just won right near the end with Thomas's goal
Game 3 vs Cam Juniors: D 0-0 - we had the bulk of the play here but found it hard to make clear cut chances in the D
Game 4 vs Saffron Walden: D 0-0 - unlucky to draw a quality match having been on top and had 4 or 5 good chances
Game 5 vs St Ives: W 2-1 - they were dangerous on the counter, but we deserved to go two up via Thomas and Tommy

As you can see there are some very nice results here!  Plus some "if only" draws to boot.  South A were very competitive in this tournament and will no doubt be raring to go again at the next one.  Well done to all the players!

U10 Boys B team report

Most games were a close, with quite a few a narrow 1-0 loss for us. There was very little between the two sides when we played Cambridge South A side and the result could easily have gone either way.  The team had a solid draw 0-0 with a lively St Ives team and conceded very few goals against to Cambridge City.  In fact, this fortress-like defending was one of the highlights for everyone with all spectators (including the opposition’s) wowed and cheering the ninja GK efforts of Harry (who also played outfield earlier) and amazing, strong tackling from all the South boys.  What a perfect advert for CSHC!

U12 Boys team report

The under 12s had a tough day but much fun was had by all. Two games against a very strong Cambridge City and Saffron Walden sides, along with three very close games against two further Cambridge City Sides and Wisbech.

Game 1 vs Cam City Red: L 0-6 - a tough game against a very strong team, we had a couple chances but they were well cut out by South's very own Seb in the city goal.
Game 2 vs Cam City Blue: L 0-1 - a very close game settled by a bizarre goal riocheting around the D and unfortunately ending up in the South Net after several deflections!
Game 3 vs Cam White: D 0-0 - Another close game and its fair to say the Euan and his opposite number came away as the two star players, with neither keeper looking like conceding all game.
Game 4 vs Saffron Walden: L 0-4 - South did up their game against pacey and skilful Walden side who played well as a team and scored 4 very simple goals. This was a game to learn from.
Game 5 vs Wisbech: L 0-1 - another close game but ultimately frustrating result, South dominated possession and had many chances through Daniel and Angus. However, as time was running out Wisbech scored on the break and the game ended before South could find an equaliser.

It was however a strong performance and clearly shows that the team has come a long way from the start of the season to be able to complete against some real quality opposition teams in this high-level competition. Well done all!
