Sunday 25th February 2024 was a remarkable day for Cambridge South HC Juniors. We hosted an important tournament featuring some high quality hockey sides. And one thing greatly stood out: quite how far the club has come!
Two South U12 Boys teams competed in respective tournaments – the prestigious Cup and Plate of the National In2Hockey competition!
Despite mixed results – against some very strong opposition sides – both squads played well on the pitch. Most of their matches were very closely contested and there were many strong positives to take from the tournament.
Over the last few seasons, this group has seen great growth – both individually and collectively – and is gelling together nicely. There is still so much more to learn and develop, and also some basics to always remember of course, but it’s fair to say the coaches are all really proud of the lads and very much enjoy coaching this group!
Lead coach Mariano had this to add: “Call me crazy, but I am happy to see some disappointment from the kids, that means that we are up for much more next time.”
No, Mariano, you are not (really all that) crazy! This squad has the potential to go a long way.
Well done to everyone who was involved … and here’s to the next tournament and the brightest of bright futures for these boys!
